Gianluigi Bacchetta

Full professor and scientific director, Centre for Biodiversity Conservation (University of Cagliari).

Degree in Life Sciences at the University of Cagliari (Italy) in 1996.
Master in “Landscape Planning” at the University of Cagliari (Italy) in 1997.
Master in “Vegetation Analysis: survey and data elaboration on flora, vegetation and soil” at the University of Ancona (Italy) in 2000.
PhD in Geomorphology and Geobotany at the University of Ancona (Italy) finished in December 2000. European PhD in Plant Biology (025 C) at the University of Valencia (Spain), concluded in November 2002.

Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Science of the University of Cagliari (Italy) from 2002 to 2006.
Associate professor at the Faculty of Human Sciences at University of Cagliari (Italy) from 2006 to 2015.
He is currently full professor and scientific director of the CCB (Centre for Biodiversity Conservation) at the Department of Life and Environmental Sciences of the University of Cagliari.
Director of the HBK (Hortus Botanicus Karalitanus) Botanical Gardens (University of Cagliari).
Coordinator of the Doctorate program in Environmental and Applied Botany from June 2009 and deputy director of the Doctorate program in Earth and environmental sciences and technologies.

Since 1994 he has been working on geobotanical analysis of the western Mediterranean areas and on biodiversity of islands concerning bioclimatology and biogeography as well.
He has published about 320 scientific papers, most of these in international journals. Total number of citations and general bibliometric indicators of whole publication record (as of 28 June 2016):

He has collaborated with Italian and international editors on 12 scientific books.
He serves as a peer reviewer for both national and international journals in the field of biodiversity conservation. He is co-editor of Plant Sociology, and member of the Plant Biosystems and Documents Phytosociologiques editorial boards.

From February 1997 to 2002 he was a member of the executive council of the Sardinian Section of the Italian Botanical Society (SBI) as a counselor and responsible for the “Commission for the Sardinian flora protection”. In November 2002 he was elected as secretary in the executive council and president of the Sardinian Section of the SBI from 2006 to 2008. In 2009 he has been elected member of the executive council of the Italian Association for vegetation Science (SISV). Actually he is deputy president of the scientific council of Conservatoire Botanique National Corse.
Also, he is responsible of various international projects (LIFE+, Interreg, ENPI, Erasmus KA2) financed by the European Union.
